Toyota’s Starlet GT gave new meaning to the
term ‘pocket rocket’. It also spawned the resurgence
of turbocharged hot hatches; something
that had all but disappeared in the early ’90s.
This Japanese car always was a scarcity in Australia,
especially with the 4E-FTE 1.3L turbo, but this rather
stock-looking GT here is indeed more than it appears.
Believe it or not, the genesis of Trent’s decision to
purchase his Toyota stemmed from a session of Gran
Turismo on his PlayStation. As he progressed through
the game, the modifications ensued to the digitised
Starlet. Unfortunately for Trent, the build-up of the real
Starlet would be a little more tedious than that found
in digi-land.
